Mojave Desert Racing (MDR) was launched in 1997 and replaced the defunct La Rana Desert Racing Series that saw its end in 1996. The young and ambitious Paul Duffey who worked with the LRDR series took on the responsibility of launching the series and filling the void of off-road desert racing enthusiasts. Duffey has since handed over the reigns of the organization to members of his family.

The Mojave Desert Racing (MDR) Off-Road Racing Series takes the California Championship Series to Stoddard Wells Valley Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) Area in Barstow, California for the MDR Stoddard 250. The off-road desert race is the seventh and final race of the series, is a double points event and takes place on desert off-road race course B. Contingency and tech inspection takes place in nearby Outlet Center Drive Mall. The off-road desert race includes such vehicles as the off-road truck, SUV, 4X4, prerunner truck, buggy, VW bug and JeepSpeed Jeep Cherokee XJ.
