Rumors Built The CRF650L But Honda Instead Delivers The 2009 XR650L With New Tank Graphics
Honda XR650L
Tuesday, 14 October 2008
2009 HONDA XR650L DUAL SPORT / STREET LEGAL DIRT BIKE MOTORCYCLEGeeze. We've been hearing rumors for several years now. Some of the bonfire boasting emanated from well-connected dirt bikers and others from pro riders and even a few factory mechanics. But finally in the 2009 model year, we are greeted with yet the same old air-cooled iron sled. While the reliability of the big bore Honda XR650L is a tough bike to beat, many were hoping for far more from factory Honda. Building the bike strictly by rumor, one might at least expect a supermoto-inspired machine. Even with an air-cooled powerplant, the new skin might be considered cool. But mind you, these rumors were the least enthusiastic of the lot. And after the emergence of the world economic situation, these rumors seemed far more viable than the longstanding version of what the 650L would become. Essentially, from as far back as maybe 2005, the new dual sport bike would be built upon the mighty water-cooled XR650R powerplant and blessed with the CRF name. This fantasy would earn the name of its little sister, the CRF230L. The mighty big bore street legal dirt bike would be called the CRF650L.

2009 HONDA CRF450R PHOTO - MOTOCROSS PHOTOThe carburetor is out. Programmable fuel injection is in. And that's not yet half the story behind the 2009 Honda CRF450R review. Just gander at the 2009 CRF450R pics. Some amazing efforts have gone into the building of Honda's mighty four-stroke MX offering. The high-revving 11,450 RPM 450-class motocross engine is where one ought to maintain focus when your throttle wrist begins to get that twitch. But again, it doesn't end there for the CRF450R parts. It's a complete package in search of top speed, agility and a quick launch off the line at the track. For this 2009 CRF, it's an unprecedented blend of power, suspension and handling that together bring a genuine revolution to the premier motocross class. And for the trackside MX mechanic, the weekend warrior wrenching on the machine or the average service, this dirt bike appears it might very well be far easier to service than its predecessor. Anybody with even a passing interest in motocross and Supercross racing recognizes that a revolution has recently taken place. Within a few short years four-stroke machines supplanted two-stroke bikes almost completely throughout the ranks of professional racing, and Honda has played a major role in this transformation. Since the debut of the CRF450R during the 2002 season, the buying public has purchased well over 100,000 motorcycles spread between the CRF450R, CRF450X, CRF250R and CRF250X, which makes Honda's four-stroke Unicam(R) engine format a runaway best-seller.

2007 Honda CRF450X Improves Upon Basics With Powerful Lighting System
Honda CRF450X

Common sense seems to dictate that when something works, you stick with it. Following that thread of logic, if you already build the best motocross bike in the world, you could then create the world's best off-road machine by sticking with that base Honda CRF450X off-road dirt bike and adding a few tidbits. Simply install a bigger generator to power a lighting system and add flywheel weight, slip in a set of wider gearbox ratios, and call it a day.

Imagine if you will, a family with twin brothers, the 2007 Honda CRF450R and CRF450X. These brothers, however, are fraternal twins, not identical twins. Although bonded to each other with inseparable genetic ties, they are still and all quite unique from one another. Let's also suppose these brothers are both excellent athletes, uniquely gifted. However, one eventually chooses to pursue the sport of football, while the other takes up basketball. And while these two sports are entirely different, each of these two brothers excels in his own chosen venue, and the twins quickly emerge as superstars.
