The Best In The Desert Racing Association has modified several segments of the upcoming 2008 BITD TSCO Vegas To Reno desert off-road race course. Changes are due in part to safety concerns as well as environmental concerns as addressed by the Bureau Of Land Management.

The first portion of the race course changed takes place between race mile 8-12, avoding a significant silt section that is popular with ace photographers. In exchange, racers will be diverted to hard packed dirt. At race mile 13.5, there will be two BITD 4X4 race support vehicles to assist in extraction of stuck race vehicles between race mile 11.5 to race mile 14. The overall race miles from the start to Pit 1 have not changed.

The second race course change begins two miles after the Highway 6 crossing after Tonopah Pit 4. BITD has rerouted around the cross grain pole line road, where the three guide wires were. This segment would have been extremely dangerous for dirt bikes and ATVs. The reroute adds approximately 1/2 mile to the race course between Pit 4 and Pit 5. There will be big signs "Course Change Ahead" prior to both of the referenced locations.
