Desert
racers and spectators throughout the world could not have anticipated a more
superb summer night to stage a desert race in California's
Mojave Desert. The mid-August twilight was a
perfect 80-odd degrees. The 15 MPH breeze quickly whisked away most of the blinding
dust that erupted from the desert floor as horsepower, skill and suspension
waged war upon the brutal 50-mile looped race course that cut through nasty
rocks and whoops in the name of the Mojave Desert Racing’s Camburg 200 desert
race in Lucerne Valley, California.
